Which paper can I write on?
Choose uncoated paper if anyone needs to write or stamp on your print. It takes pen, pencil and ink stamps easily. Silk will take a ballpoint. Gloss paper and laminated surfaces are difficult to write on.
By surface
| Surface | Ballpoint | Pencil | Ink stamp |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uncoated | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Silk | Yes | Poor | Slow to dry, may smudge |
| Gloss | Poor | No | Smudges |
| Laminated (any type) | Poor | No | Smudges |
Coated and laminated surfaces are sealed, so ink sits on top instead of soaking in. That is why it smears. A permanent marker will write on them, but an ordinary pen will struggle.

- Flyers with a small space to add a name or date: silk is usually fine with a ballpoint.
